Ok, First of all, this guy gave this a 1 star review, probably do not know how to use it. I started a fire with this baby, in a furious 6 'x 6' hell, it took me all of 13 seconds. First of all, you do not want pieces of magnesium … Want to scrape a fine powder, the lighter to ignite the spark launcher on the back. The spark lamp functioning properly. This tool easily turn on the lights if you really know what you're doing. I also set fire to aFriend's cigarette with him, just for fun (and see if I could do it).

The chain counts is shit, the typical ball chain that put U.S. $ store "Dog Tags" on. It 'been long enough that you should not take it apart to use the two pieces, though. I only have a small extension is a chain of different ball I had, and is now on a long chain necklace, easy to fix. If you really bugs, para cord is $ 5 for 500 feet to my hardware store, go get it.

Light My Fire – Mini Firesteel, Orange Handle Review

My family spends a significant amount of time “off road” (figuratively and literally.) The kids and I made a project of creating a “on the belt” Survival Kit. The fire aspect was an interesting learning experience.

Of all the “sparker” type setups, this was the ONLY one what worked with any ease or regularity (understanding that carrying a lighter was not the goal). Both kids (12 and 9) can, with any reasonable supervision, set up and light a fire (now we have fights to see who gets to light the wood burning stove at the ranch).

The product is cost effective, well shaped to the task and the striker is such that you can hold the striker stationary and pull the sparker across it. This along, make it stand heads above the rest of the field.

Swedish Firesteel – Scout Model, Oak Handle Review

This little guy can do a lot of spark by far. However, you must practice to make the movement correctly. It is not like a match, and it helps if you understand how it works. It 'like a stone and steel, but Flint is replaced with magnesium (which in Flint). The striker, if you drive into the slot of the bar, drive out tiny particles that ignite the magnesium in the air due to frictional heat. That said, you must use a shot Fast Company. It shouldScrape many particles, and has enough energy to power them. It is not incredibly fast, so that the practice obtained stable and strong, then you can get more speed, more friction, which will add more spark.

This is different than a game, because a match went on for a while. These sparks are there for a second time, during which they must ignite something. In this sense, you need a good bait to catch it. I have a smallBag of dryer lint (not lacking in this country) with me, because I think is the best bait. However, toilet tissue and other very light as it works very well, especially if they crush it. It might take some newspaper shots, very dry birch bark or leaves, but cut and experiment. (If you're one of those blocks magnesium fire starter, shaving bits from the one that works great with this)

This is very funnyto use. makes it feel very masculine and fresh sparks. I recommend it to any event and will be something for my friends, go shopping with a backpack. It may have been five stars but I wanted to emphasize that, unlike their games, and takes some skill and practice.

Swedish Firesteel – Scout Model, Blue Handle Review

This little guy can make lots of sparks many times over. However, you need to practice to get the motion right. It isn’t like striking a match, and it helps if you understand how it works. It is like a flint and steel, only the flint is replaced with magnesium (which is in flint). The striker, when you drive it down the shaft of the rod, propels off tiny magnesium particles which ignite in the air due to heat caused by friction. This being said, you need to use a firm, fast stroke. It must scrape off lots of particles, and also have enough energy to ignite them. It doesn’t need to be incredibly fast, so practice getting it steady and strong first, then you can add more speed, which will cause more friction, which will create more sparks.

This is also different from a match because a match burns for a while. These sparks exist for a half second, during which time they must ignite something. With this in mind, you need a good tinder to get it to catch. I keep a little bag of dryer lint (which there is no shortage of in this country) with me, because I think it is the best tinder. However, tissue, toilet paper, and other such very light material will work very well, especially if you shred it. It might take a few strokes to catch newspaper, very dry birch bark or leaves, but shred them and experiment. (If you have one of those magnesium fire starter blocks that you shave bits off of, that works great with this)

This thing is also a lot of fun to use. Feels very manly and makes cool sparks. I definitely recommend it and will buy some for my friends who I am going backpacking with. It could’ve been five stars, but I wanted to emphasize that its different than matches, and takes some skill and practice.
